" |____________________| '-----------------------------------------------' use monospace font for optimal display .-----------------------------------------------. . --: What is that about ? |--------------------| '-----------------------------------------------' ' It's all about information in the TikiWiki community. We are a fast growing group of people (88 today) trying to organize the growth of TikiWiki CMS/Groupware/wiki/everything Software collaboratively in the tradition of Open Source Free Software. Some years ago I was an email newsletter auto-publisher, and I think that we need such a tool now. We have too much information to deal with and too few reference points to sort them out. The goal of the TikiNews publication is to gather valuable reference points from our ongoing activity as an unorganized consensual group. So we need volunteers to manage that task, or help with it, because it's a lot of work in reviewing (check the list below). We can't predict anything about the publication pattern; maybe a monthly tikinews will be good enough, maybe more frequently. We don't need any fixed dates anyway. cheers, mose .-----------------------------------------------. . --: How to help TikiNews ? |--------------------| '-----------------------------------------------' ' Here is the list of places where we can find reference candidates. .--------------------. : http://tikiwiki.org '================================================| It's the first obvious place. Now it's big with 810 wiki pages, 1030 opened accounts (check http://tikiwiki.org/stats ). > Wiki - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Full freedom and many pages, it's an ant work to sort and try to unify. Maybe if this newletter can point out some direction, more people could help on this. ... add some links ... > Articles - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Used as a sort of official publishing option, essentially to announce releases, and other topics related to the community. Maybe we lack some community document or official case study to display ? That's a writer's job .. > FAQ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| That looks like the ideal tool to synthetize of our knowledge. Okay, it requires some work to prettify and make more useable. But content will not be lost. There is already a really good work going on there, and reporting in TikiNews what's new can be a good way to advertise it. http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-list_faqs.php > Forums - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Recently patvdv decided to manage that area, for the benefit of the community and has done a really good job ! With that activity (162 posts in a few weeks) the forums are now much more responsive. Maybe a special review can be published in the TikiNews. > Blogs, imagegal, filegal, directories, trackers - - - - - - - - - - -| They are wildly useable by each developer and that freedom makes it very rich and very different from time to time, place to place. I ignore it if any one human can have time to lurk all around there to be able to report a general feeling or something that sounds close. Maybe each tool can have a reporter; if you feel the inclined, contact me. > stats and graphs - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Global activity on the website are sortof environemental inputs, that participate to a feeling you can have when working on a project. http://tikiwiki.org/stats http://tikiwiki.org/ServerStats http://tikiwiki.org/webalizer/ .--------------. : Mailing-lists '======================================================| > tikiwiki-devel - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Archives say we can expect 600-1000 messages per month, with 177 subscribers, and a wide scope of topics, which would deserve some sort of synthesis, like what is done on some other mailing-list, if anyone can handle that : http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=12569 > tikiwiki-users - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| 154 subscribed to that list, with lower traffic, less than 100 hits per day. Maybe that list should be merged ? what would you say ? http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=tikiwiki-users > tikiwiki-cvs - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Well, it's actually the most verbose list we have, in regard of past 2 months. Only 46 brave souls use that flow (and recently IRC lurkers by the magic of CIA bot). But maybe a synthesis would be useful for a bigger number of contributors. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=15900 CIA bot : http://navi.picogui.org/svn/picogui/trunk/tools/irc/cia.html CIA stats : http://navi.picogui.org/cgi-bin/cia_stats.cgi .-----------------------. : IRC live collaboration '=============================================| For 3 months now channel #tikiwiki has been open on irc.freenode.net and it never been empty. The online logs are rich but are not searcheable yet (will be soon). Irc is the only fast way to get immediate support for your tikiwiki installation or anything. If you can convince someone to help you, of course. Some reading (perhaps assisted by proper tools) should help Dennis to write FAQ items or things like that. Many tips are provided there. It's really not difficult to join in : http://tikiwiki.org/ConnectingToIrc IRC daily logs (computed at 4am paris time) http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-irc_logs.php Experimental TikiBot (soon in CVS) http://tikiwiki.org/TikiBot .--------------------. : Partner activities '================================================| As tikiwiki is made in parts with third party development, some news about their evolution will be helpful. Maybe that reporting already exists for some, but it's time to check them all ! http://tikiwiki.org/TikiPartner Some miscellaneous news ... > JGraphPad 3.0 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -| Version 3.0 is now included in cvs and in branch too.
