No history for Articles pages?

The "original homepage" page in the site I created is a Wiki page. And it has history of the various edits.

On the other hand, the Articles do not have history. I realized this the hard way. I do not know exactly what happened, but one of my Articles main text was blank — must have been caused by slow connection and my browser crashed. Had there been any history of the various edits in the Articles, then I could just have cancelled the "last edit" that was empty and rolled it back to an earlier version.

Is there something I am missing. Or, is there a reason why there is no "history" for the "Articles"?

Thanks for replying to my postings Sylvie

I want to use the Articles section, instead of the Wiki, partly because I like the option of "html allowed".

As I experienced, it is as important a feature as it is in the Wiki section.

I have assigned "Editors" and "Community Leaders" to be able to edit the Articles pages. If I made any error in judgement in selecting just one errant Editor or Community Leader, then one person can theoretically wipe out an entire website — through the edit permission to these groups.

Is there any stop gap measure to avoid this, while this option is not available. I know, I have to make hardcopy — but that is still not the solution I wish should be.

Is there no way to just "copy" the same feature in the Wiki and adopt it to the Articles section?

If I have any background in programming or scripting, I would do it myself.

Wiki has a HTML option. However you must also grant the users group the permission to use HTML.

Remember groups of people HTML editing can lead to them creating XSS and eventually getting your admin cookie. Which means they then have FULL admin access to the system.

HTML is there as a last resort, my advise is learn wiki syntax, develop plugins for anything thats missing and use that instead. It is MUCH safer and secure solution.

in admin->wiki page

Thanks Damian and Sylvie,

I guess the best precaution is to be more restrictive with the html permissions. I assume I can create special groups with very selective members, Admin-html and Editor-html, who may have html privileges, other than the usual privileges by given to the more general group of Admin and Editors, respectively.

A question: Is this a Wiki or an Article page:
http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Documentation&bl

And thanks for pointing the html option for the Wiki page, Sylvie. (here's the route path I used: Admin->Admin home->Wiki)

Here's what I found out, even if I checked the box for "Allow HTML" — it does not enable the use of html in the Wiki, immediately. However, the Administrator (this is based on permissions allowed) may check the individual "html" option found in each to enable actual html.

Following Damian's precaution, the html option for individual pages should not be checked unless a page is already in its "final format" and is locked by the user or Administrator. Another possibility is to use the Wiki pages for all, including allowing registered users to edit (or provide comments) but without the HTML option. And, then reserve the Article for the "official and final" version of a topic.

Still, it would be a good idea to have history in the Articles section.

So many things to learn about the TikiWiki. I think many of the questions we (neophytes) are asking would be best answered by multicategory FAQs About TikiWiki.

Here are prototypes I just started as I am writing this response:

as part of an Article:

as part of general (independent) resource Wiki page
