Error on installing aulawiki

Sorry to ask a n00b question, but after successfully installing TikiWiki and adding a few mods, I decided to add aulawiki. But I can't. Instead, I get this message:
''Warning: copy(aulawiki-assignments_admin.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/html/tiki/lib/mods/modslib.php on line 375
features/aulawiki/aulawiki-assignments_admin.php to aulawiki-assignments_admin.php impossible to copy''

Is this a permissions error somewhere?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you have a problem of permissions in your server. You can manually install aulawiki, if you have ftp access...

Download it from http://www.escire.org/aulawiki/mods (under features, aulawki 0.5 is in there, newer even if the number is lower, than 1.2 available through http://tikiwiki.org/mods
(I wish, for next times, the author - jyeres - didn't find problems in cvs at sf.net to keep using the central cvs for upgrades..., instead of his own one, as nowadays).

Unpack it in local, see the structure of directories, and browse your tiki installation to find the place where it should be installed (I don't remember right now). If you search it but you can't find it, ask again.

Btw, so far aulawiki development and bug reporting is being done aside tw.o sites. See it in : http://www.escire.org/aulawiki/

Howpefully, testing ground would be http://edu.tikiwiki.org in the future, and bug reporting would go to http://dev.tikiwiki.org, whenever it's allowed and included in their category system, etc.

Cheers,

xavi

Parent Directory 03-Aug-2006 16:56 -
DIR Cache/ 03-Jul-2006 19:29 -
DIR Dist/ 03-Jul-2006 18:45 -
DIR Installed/ 03-Jul-2006 19:29 -
DIR Packages/ 03-Jul-2006 18:37 -
DIR features/ 03-Jul-200

which one do i have to click to get things downloaded for installing aulawiki? pls help me to identify which file do i need as i really need to get things done and play around with aula.

another thing is, do i have to have tiki in order for me to install aula? or are both systems can be used separately?

thanks for your help.

Thanks. I prefer manual installs, anyway.

Ah, well, I figured out my mistake. When I created the tiki database, I did not make the user apache, so apache had no permissions to write to the appropriate folders. So I dropped the tables and reinstalled tikiwiki, downloaded aulawiki 0.5 and the install went fine. Aulawiki is now running.

I tried the manual install, but since apache had no permissions to alter the db, my efforts were fruitless.

Now I can spend time configuring tiki and aulawiki the way they're supposed to be done.

My error was made when I first created the tikiwiki database in the tiki install process. I listed the username and password as the root user's. Terrible mistake, for a lot of reasons. The dbusername and dbpassword should have been apache/apache, so that the web server can write to the db. (I'm hosting it on a WhiteHat Linux machine, BTW.)

Now, some directories have to secured against intrusions from web users, so tikiwiki includes a shellscript, fixperm, to run before and after you install a mod. The reminder is right at the top of the admin mods page. You have to enter the web root directory (var/www/html/tiki in my case) to run fixperm from the command line, so you need command line access to the webserver.

With the right db credentials and the fixperm script in my toolbox, installing aulawiki was a breeze.

Let me know if you need more help.
