google maps

Hello

I have looked over the documentation for google maps. Got the key and set everything up. The locator shows up under mytiki preferences.

My questions is what else can I do with google maps. For example, is there a way to show the location of all users on one map. Or when typing in an address....is there a way to the address on a map...or do I need to continue getting the links from google.

Basically, I just want to know how else to use the google map feature. :-)

Thanks!

Thanks for your response Xavi!

I have looked at the documentation and that is where I get lost. It really only talks about the user location. There is not any information (as I can tell) about additional uses....and I would not mind improving the documentation....however, I don't know what else I can do with it. If I could figure that out then I could/would improve the documentation. :-)

Hope this makes sense.

Take a look here:
http://myaurora.org/aurorawiki/tiki-index.php?page=CD3+Events+Calendar

I have Google Maps and Google Calendar on the same page. Tiki Calendar has been clunky since day one and just does not have the features Google does and it is easy to get a Google calendar on a wiki page.

When you are in Google Calendar Settings click the name of one of your calendars, look down towards the bottom under "embed this calendar, choose "Customize the color, size and other options" and in there you can design your calendar, choose multiple calendars to display and more. It then makes IFRAME code for you that you can drop on your Tiki page. I think you might still need the IFRAME plug in for Tiki but maybe that's included in Tiki installs now.

The maps are a little more complicated and I did it a while ago but you sign up for Google Maps and create your own map, place data points etc. There's a similar tool that makes the IFRAME code for you. I think the extra step is that you need to generate a code of some sort but it's been a while. I think that happens when you are signing up for Google Maps.

There also used to be a way to integrate Maps in Tiki in other ways but I was never able to get that to work (my ignorance not tiki's problem I'm sure!). Google is the way though and because both the calendar and the maps are at Google it's easy to get at them on your cel phones or share them across webpages that are not on Tiki sites.

Also, as you'll see in the page I referenced, you can place data points and edit the balloon that pops up for them with website info, text and a picture.

You can also allow others to collaborate on the map so you don't have to place all the new data points.

'Also Google Calendar makes map links automatically (not on your map though)from addresses for the event and you can also invite up to 500 e-mail addresses and collect RSVPs
