How do you change the URL/URI that the tiki is based at

Hi there,
I have successfully installed tikiwiki
I am trying to figure out how I eliminate the folder that I installed tikiwiki from the URL name.

1.
When I go to my domainname.info/
I get a page created by my web host. I would like this to send me to my home page. how do I redirect this to home page?

2.
Currently I have my homepage at domainname.info/tikiwiki22
the folder tikiwiki22 is the install directory that I can see with my FTP client.
I would like to eliminate the /tikiwiki from my visible URL.
How would I do this?

For reference I am using tikiwiki 2.2 on a linix web host

I am not a computer programmer nor do I know java, php, html, xhtml. However I program CNC Mills and Lathes and know G&M code well I try to understand instructions and appreciate help.

Any help you provide I will try and document in the tikiwiki documentation.

Many thanks in advance

Dear Chase_N :

First of all... Welcome to Tikiwiki Community! smile

And now, You'd better re-upload your tikiwiki installation to the right place, according to what you are looking for (and as I understand, you can only install through ftp)

If you upload folder "tikiwiki22" to the server, you will have that folder in the way to your tiki installation, after your domain name (i.e. domainname.info/tikiwiki22 )

If you upload the content of your local folder tikiwiki22 (not the folder and all its contents) but just the contents of that folder, then you'll have everything in your server without the "tikiwiki22" prefix at the url.

Does it help?

Xavi

P.S: This looks like a question to be added to the Faqs...

Thank you Xavi,

That sounds like it is exactly what I need to do.
I tried moving the files to the root last night but it did not work so a reinstall is in order.
At this point installing tikiwiki isn't very hard as I have had some practice.

I will keep you posted. I will hopefully have it up and running in a couple of hours.

I will add this to the Faqs when I am successful.

Hey Xavi,

Thank you for the solid advice!biggrin
Using it I was able to resolve my directory issues.

I still have a fair bit of learning and configuring to do however I am starting to really like tikiwiki.

In case others read this, you don't necessarily have to have it in the root folder. But what you would need to do is have your url target that specific folder. In my case, I have it here, domain.com/tiki_version/. When you access domain.com it actually goes to domain.com/tiki_version, but displays it as if it was in the root directory. Of course, if your hosting company doesn't allow this(targeting), then of course you would need to have it in root. (but I would suggest switching your hosting company because that is rather basic)
If you have it setup within a folder under your root directory, it makes it a lot easier to have subdomains. That way, all your domains are separated. Not to mention if you have other applications on your server. They may require a separate folder, and it makes it a lot easier to distinguish what you have on your server.
