Restoring a Backup

Arghhhh!

Never had to use the 'restore' facility in >Admin>Backup until today.
Can someone tell me what's gone wrong at www.abclife.org?

Thanks a million!

Hi,

Database Backup and Restore from the admin menu is broke sad

Chealer9 added this to the branch-1-8: Warning : Backups are known not to work since some time now. Don't rely on them. Chealer9 20031117

But I think this also extends to the 1.7.5

If you need to backup the database the best way is with either phpMyAdmin downloadable from http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmyadmin or just using the mysqldump command directly at console.

To backup:
mysqldump -u dbuser -p dbname > dump.sql
will ask for the password and backup dbname to dump.sql

To restore:
mysql -u dbuser -p dbname < dump.sql
will ask for the password

Thanks, for the response.biggrin
Not the answer I wanted to know though frown

My ISP provides MyPHPadmin as std.
When I log in, I see all the tables in my db.

Can I export them as I have no backup save for the ones I've created using the defunct (now I know eh) backup/restore function.

Hmm,

I'm not sure if its the backup, or the restore procedure thats broke.

If you want me to look at your tables please export them from phpMyAdmin and mail me them along with the backup file you got. I'll try and make some sense out of them.

It looks like the permissions table isnt setup correctly.

On the export tab set:
Select all tables
in SQL Options section tick: Structure, add auto_increment value, add backticks
check the Data, but leave the 2 data options cleared.

Email to damian(AT)tikiwiki(DOT)org

p.s. Is it 1.7.4 or 1.7.5?

Cheers Damian,

I'll do this in the morning if plan A not succesfull.
I spoke to a colleague of mine who uses the same ISP. Apparently they take daily backups for clients. I'm hoping they have a backup from Sunday night so I can get the content back. If that's the case there's only around 10 pages missing as the site ain't live anyway yet. Will let u know how I get on.

Thanx a million for yer help though.
You really are a gent!
