PayPal Donations, PDF creation and snippets: are they possible?

Hi everybody

I'm planning to create a wiki+blog, and I see TikiWiki would be the right solution.

Just some questions before starting...

1) I want my readers to have the possibility to donate by using PayPal. Is it possible to add a persistent button in the blog and wiki pages, maybe on a sidebar?

2) is it possible to create a persistent banner on the upper top of the wiki and blog?
I want to put some text and maybe the PayPal donation button.
I want something that I can modify once, and the edits reflect along all the pages (so that I don't need to manually edit every page)

3) I'd like to give my readers the opportunity to choose some pages and create a PDF with them.
The goal is to allow them to create their personalized PDF (ebook) letting them choose the pages they want.
Is it possible to make some pages automatically inserted into the PDF (i.e.: my bio, a brief introduction to my wiki, etc...)?

Thank you!

You can add the PayPal widget (using the HTML plugin) to a module, then assign the module to the side. That is exactly what is done in the right column on this site. Please see the docs for details.

Yes, you can create a module and have it appear on your site (at the top, button, or right/left columns. Please see the docs for details.

You can use Tiki's PDF feature to allow site visitors to create a PDF from a page. Please see the docs for details.

Hi IvanPsy and Rick,

just want to add some brand new information, which is not yet published, as some details about the type of integration are still to be confirmed:

A number of people (maybe two groups loosely interlinked) are working on an implementation of mPDF into Tiki.

It is very most likely, that a bunch of commits will be coming in January and I have tested a very basic self-made implementation, which is kind of working. If I would not know, that more skilled coders are n the same issue, I'd soon commit myself.

What about mPDF:

Whilst wkhtmltopdf is a pdf library written in C (or C+ or C++) and thus cannot be installed on an average shared hosting, mPDF is written in PHP and one of the missing links to advanced groupware capabilities, we have been searching since ages.

I am myself using mPDF in Tiki to create invoices and certificate. Despite being a roughly tinkered test-implementation, those documents are real use case and will be sent out likely tomorrow. However a proper mPDF implmentation (committed to the Tiki core) will not be done by myself, but as said by more skilled coders and likely needs a few weeks. I expect the experimental marked feature to likely be in 15 (future LTS) by the time of branching. If not, a backport is likely before Tiki 15 release.

mPDF is quite easy to implement into Tiki and it has awesome features and a lot of options (mainly for webmasters and webdevelopers or website administrators).

The only drawback is that mPDF has a non-compatible licence, why we cannot ship it directly.

Thus one of the main desicions to be made first, is to deside if we use the new addons feature for mPDF installation, or if we prepare a preference and hooks, for that a wbmaster can download mPDF seperately and install it to Tiki inn only a few minutes in a welldocumented and easy to handle process.

In other words, we have to deside, if the use of addons would be the appropriate way or if it would be alike taking a sledgehammer to break a nut.

So: if you have a few weeks time, you will have available a great PDF output feature besides the original printing feature.

Best regards,
Torsten

Addition: to let your users choose which content to include in their selection to go to a single pdf, you need to use structures of wiki pages (with current code base in Tiki).

And with some more php coding, it could be extended to let you add other tiki objects besides wiki pages, such as your blog posts, etc.

Thank you all for your very useful replies!
Good news then!

Yes: as for the PDF feature my goal is to let my readers to "build" their own eBook by allowing them to choose the wiki pages.
No problem for the mPDF implementation schedule: it will take time before having so much content to create an eBook.

I can wait for I don't have knowledge of PHP coding.

I think I'll start with the blog and the related wiki pages.
The strength of TikiWiki is I'm able to select the features I need now and add the others as they are required.
