You would also need to combine the PHP files that query and pass the data to the tpl file for display.
Probably the easier method is to use and possibily create some new wikiplugins similar to the articles one which you can see on http://www.damosoft.co.uk Here you are looking at a wiki page with some text then: {ARTICLES(topic=>News,max=>3)}{ARTICLES} to display the articles and again more text underneath.
This link shows an interesting idea using the SPLIT plugin and 3 sets of ARTICLES plugin, a News topic used in the header, then Left and Right topics in the middle.
Forums and Blogs could be easily done in the same way, just by creating a new wiki-plugin.
