i've also played with the open_basedir entry in php.ini and httpd.conf but that breaks other apps and also causes the twiki to render a blank page

i've run setup.sh as well as manually run chmod, chown etc

trying to install v1.7 on solaris 8 running apache 2.0.3.6 and mysql 4.0.13

phpwiki (v1.3.4) works just fine, but i'd like to test twiki

any suggestions greatly appreciated

(reprinting the details in case the link I previously posted goes away)

I'm experiencing a very similar problem to what kassim posted about.

tiki-install.php gives the "Tiki Installer cannot proceed" message, even though I followed all instructions at http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Linux+Install&bl . Specifically, tiki-install.php says that the directories backups/, db/, dump/, etc., are all not writeable. I tried manually chmod 777'ing some of those directories, but this didn't help.

When running setup.sh, I used the same username and groupname that I saw in the system response to "id" and in the httpd.conf file. I examined /etc/php.ini and saw that open_basedir was not set and that magic_quotes_runtime was set to Off.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. P Berman

Please try to change all of them to 777 (including files and subdirectories) and report back.

Thanks!

I have now changed all directories and subdirectories (excluding the files in some of the subdirectories of "styles"; among those subdirectories, I only went down to the file level in the permissions changes for styles/default, styles/notheme, and styles/tiki). Unfortunately, I get the exact same "not writeable" error.

Per the other user's suggestion, I checked about Safe Mode — it is indeed off.

What next?

Try checking if your PHP safe mode is off. That being on tends to cause common PHP app install issues with many apps.

Also, perhaps you can temporarily set display_errors = On and see if you get any errors.
