    I was trying to find out why GIF's don't create thumbnails and read a post that GD (?) doesn't handle them. Is there a way I can prevent users from uploading GIF's?

    Thats correct GD doesnt support GD. the PHP imagick extension does. or you can use a regexp in the Admin section to prevent them from being uploaded.

    I wonder what the chances are of somebody fixing the "upload alternative thumbnail" for images. This would be a good way to handle large GIF images, but has never worked, as far as I know.
