My wife and two sons are the most important things in the world to me.

I'm also a professional internet application developer, system administrator, and Chief Technology Officer for the Knowledge Institute in New Hampshire, USA.

I'm a strong advocate for free software. I believe that most if not all current patent laws are wrong, because they serve the interests of large, powerful and wealthy corporations. Patent laws do not serve individual creators, artists, inventors, scientists nor the public that benefit from these creators. I am convinced of the benefit of open sharing of thoughts, ideas, discoveries and language. I believe, as Thomas Jefferson did, that once an idea is shared, it cannot diminish the original idea, nor can it be owned or controlled.

Software is both like an idea, and also like the laws that govern society. We don't allow patents on laws, nor should we allow patents on software.

If we allow corporations to own and control the technology that is now inextricably intertwined with our daily lives, then we allow those same corporations to own and control us. Such a world is akin to paying for the right to breathe.

I'll step down from my soapbox now, and try to find some time to play with my kids, write more free software and make the world a better place.
