Which mysql release do you have? I think that full text search is after MySQL 3.23.23
You can avoid to see the php error message by changing the level in admin -> general -> no php error reporting
If you have an error in a php script , IE will often displays the XML message and hide the error ... So try to not display php error - but check your php log to know if you have problem
(In 1.10 I set up an automatic mail to the admin for each php error)
