Invalid RSS feed - wrong encoding

posts: 68

On checking with FeedValidator, it returned the following errors for the Articles RSS feed from my tikiwiki website:

This feed does not validate.
*
Your feed appears to be encoded as "UTF-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII"
*
line 40, column 242: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x97 in position 4546: unexpected code byte (maybe a high-bit character?) ^

*
line 27, column 13: author must include an email address (10 occurrences)

I can't understand this at all. Please help!

You need to modify your PHP.ini file and tell PHP to generate all content in UTF-8:

Copy to clipboard
default_charset = "UTF-8"

You can also do this through Apache Virtual Hosts settings.

But Damian, I'm on a hosted server, and I do not have the rights to change the php.ini file there. Is there any other way of rectifying this?

Thanks so much,
Sooraj.

Right now it says for default_charset - no value (under both Master and Local values).
