    Is it your own smarty?
    because in tikiwiki, the file will be at lib/Smarty/libs
    Clear also the smarty cache (rm -rf templates_c/*) It can help if smarty version has changed since the last tpl compilation.

    No it is not my smarty. I downloaded it from smarty.php.net and installed. THe one that came with tikiwiki also gave same problem.
    tried rm -rf templates_c also. Did not help.
