Updating from 186 to 192

Below I'll describe how I updated a tryout 1.86 version of TikiWiki — can someone with experience tell me if this sounds like a good way to update, or if I'm likely to have any problems down the road?

Basically, I followed the instructions in docs called InstallwithonlyFTPAccess and "Upgrading or Udating to 192" from this site. This involved flushing the cache files in SystemAdmin while logged into my tryout site, then using Dreamweaver to "put" a complete local copy of version 1.92 to my already established 1.86 root folder. Then, after changing the permissions and creating an "img/trackers" folder as specified in one of the above doc's instructions, I typed the necessary address in my browser that allowed me to run the tiki - install.php script, and of course this script allowed me to update my 1.8x database to 1.9, and then to update it again from 1.9 to 1.92. There were some error messages with the database update, but I had sort of expected a few. Well, so far everything seems to work just fine — I'm now running a 1.92 site and I don't see any problems with it yet.

Would really appreciate any advice on the viability of this procedure (which allowed me to avoid having to use phpMyAdmin to run those database updates — I kept having problems there because I don't know much about SQL queries). I've used it only on a tryout extra site, not on my main wiki installation, but I'd like to be able to perform such an easy update of that main one as well. Thanks in advance.

Hello Damian,

Thanks. But I tried the same procedure on my established site, and ran into a couple of problems that I hope you can help with. I ran the install script, but noticed even before I did this that on the install page this message was at the page bottom:

Fatal error: Smarty error: in footer.tpl line 11: plugin function smarty_modifier_tiki_long_datetime() not found in lib/smarty_tiki/modifier.tiki_long_datetime.php (core.load_plugins.php, line 73) in /home/ajdrake/public_html/wiki/lib/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1088

Then I ran the 1.8to1.9 and 1.9to1.92 scripts, which executed. But when I clicked on the "proceed to your site" button, all I saw was the tiki bar (with the time and tiki 1.92, etc) at the very top of the page, and the rest is a blank.

Is there any way to fix these issues? I made a backup of my database before changing anything, but it would be great to have my site up and running in 1.92 with all the data. Thanks for any advice you can offer. Al

Blank or half drawn pages are often caused by: art82

Also try to remove all content in templates_c that is the smarty cache folder.
