Did you try admin->theme control?
Not sure the variable $section= and the line include_once ('tiki-section_options.php'); is set in each page you want a special theme, But you can do it easily I think

You can create new menus as you want (better to keep as it is the menu 42 not to have problem for next upgrde) So copy part of the menu 42 to a new menu

Try to display your menu via phplayers (admin-> modules -> user module .. there is a phplayer option . See http://phplayersmenu.sourceforge.net/ to know the option: vert, horiz...)
