Upgrading from 1.9 to 1.92 / shared web host

I'm upgrading from 1.9 to 1.92 on my shared web host ( bluehost.com ) ; I've backed up my db and am ready to upgrade the db but don't understand how to execute the sql commands to upgrade the db.

Is this done by using myphpadmin by selecting the file on my local computer? Or do I upload the db/ folder to my tiki installation and then run the file in my browser?

Thanks for the clarification.

I use phpmyadmin. You can select the upgrade file on your computer to be executed all at once, but phpmyadmin doesn't respect "IGNORE" so, while it executes everything preceding it, it stops at the first error, such as "column xxx already exists" — this is the most common error. This may not happen, but in my experience, more often than not the upgrade file does try something that conflicts with how the database already is.

I end up copying and pasting the upgrade file into phpmyadmin's submit textarea in small sections. If there is an error, I hit the back button and delete everything up to and including the statement that caused the error, then submit again. Well, some incremental process like that. Pretty laborious, but eventually you get the updates in.

There may be slicker ways to do it, but I'm not really sure about them.

Why mess around copy/pasting when tiki-install.php can perform the upgrade for you without issue?

Upgrade all the files to the new release, then goto tiki-install.php, enter your admin password and choose the upgrade option. Click the button, Click to disable the script, then enjoy your site.

Dont mess around with phpMyAdmin, do it properly in the first place.

p.s. Bluehost is not a recommend site, doc.tikiwiki.org had to be moved from them recently because of problems.

A creature of habit, I got used to using phpmyadmin a long time back when I guess the install script either wasn't around or not up to speed. I'll try it first next time.

Thanks, I'll try to upload and run the script. Too bad this way is not outlined on the upgrade page. or did I miss it?

I'll tell you how it goes with hosting it on bluehost.

I upgraded using the install script and everything went well with the exception of this; should I worry about this?

Command: ALTER TABLE users_users DROP KEY score_2
Message: Can't DROP 'score_2'; check that column/key exists

Command: ALTER TABLE users_groups DROP groupHomeLocalized
Message: Can't DROP 'groupHomeLocalized'; check that column/key exists

I'm getting this message repeated several times once I login: Any ideas?

Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/arbutusm/public_html/tikiwiki/lib/adodb/adodb.inc.php on line 2797

Thanks for any ideas..
