Select Categories with Drop Down / List Field

Hi folks,

I just installed a tiki 1.8.5 for a customer, who insisted to use this system.
Everything is working fine so far, there are just a few minor issues that I cant work out.
For a start, as you all know there are different objects you can create in the tw, like documents, articles, news and so on, which can be added to one or more category.
This happens by entering the category in a quicktag like:
( ( category1 ) )
( ( category2 ) )

Whats this ? I mean...for doing so you have to know all existing categories by heart ?
Furthermore it´s hardly usable for anyone outside the TW community.

I searched the mailing list archives and the forum...but I cant imagine that this never came up to anyone ?

Question 1: Is there a solution for this, like having all available categories in sth. like a List Field or Drop Down menu ?
Question 2 . If not (1), where would I have to start when I would want to do it myself ?

Thanks for reading !

Don't remember on 1.8... But in 1.9, when you edit a page, article..., you have a link "show category" and you have a drop down list.
Try on a page on this site

You´re right sylvie...
Too bad the TW I have to mess with is heavily modified, so an update to 1.9.x is nearly impossible.
Is there a way to get this feature into 1.8.x ?
That would be great.

The syntax below will just create a link to another page.

Hmm...in this TW it actually adds the object to a category.

Ok....
I just checked a 1.8.6, the categorization list is in tiki-editpage ... so it is very strange. Check another theme to see if it was deleted.
Whatever, to insert a categorization in an object edit page it is easy:
In the php you need to do an
include_once('categorize.php');
This will set up all the variables.
And in the associated template, you have to insert
missing page for plugin INCLUDE

If you don't have these files in your version you can copy them from a 1.8.6
Good luck
