What is "Relevence" in search?

What exactly does the Relevence indicator mean in search results? For example, consider this search results page on tw.o... When a hit has a Relevence of 65 what does that mean?

  • 65 occurances of the term on that page?
  • 65% chance that the term exists on that page?
  • A rating of "65" (out of ?????) based on the terms occurance in the page (with the assumption that headings and titles carry more weight than body text)?
  • Something else entirely?

Even worse, when I use the search on my Tiki, I get Relevence ratings of 1.05064 and 2.22134.

Looking for help.....

Does anyone use search on their Tiki? And know what this means?

I do use it, but it's not very useful... (I can't use boolean search out of the box on the newly installed tikis...)
I wish this could be addressed in following releases... (out of the box boolean search working, at least on mysql db engines)

How, exactly do you use it? What does a relevancy of 1.5643 mean?

From reading the code in searchlib.php and refresh-functions.php, I think the answer to this is:

For wiki pages/forum comments/file galleries: number of times the searched word is in the title+description+data, based on what is stored in the index.

For articles/blogs/blog posts/images/image galleries: hits

For trackers: I think it does not work for this (seems to be always 1?)
