Webserver requirements for tikiwiki

Hi,

I'm interested in using tikiwiki as a communication platform for my soaring club.

I wonder what I need in order to use it - obviously apache, mysql, php and smarty.

Can I get smarty installed in a shared hosting environment with the average hosting provider? What about php accelerators?

Another thing, maybe related to usability: I would be interested in using mod_rewrite (apache) to create an easy virtual directory structure. Will this be a big thing to do in combination with tikiwiki?

Thanks very much in advance for your answer!

Cheers,

Gregor

Hi,

TikiWiki can run in PHP SafeMode, which is common in shared hosting environments. If your host allows you can certainly use the rewrite rules in a local .htaccess file. Dont worry too much about accelerators at the moment, but again if you want them, they need to be setup by your host.

For starters you will be fine running it in Safemode, I did for 2 months with www.damosoft.co.uk, but now I have my own Web Server up and running biggrin

Hope it helps, if you want more info, please get in touch with me.
