I understand the urge to modify things and I've messed things up trying to change something.
Your best bet here is to replace the file you were working on with a fresh copy. You can download the whole tiki install for the version you are using to your computer, find the file and ftp it to the proper place on your server.
To prevent problems, what I've been doing is: I download the original file to my computer before I modify it. I then edit the one on the server and, if my hack works, I download the edited file to my computer as backup and add a date or version # to the name (I remove it if I have to upload it again).
Then, if I screw up I can always go back to the last one that worked.
