Upgrade instructions

I like Tikiwiki, but its documentation continues to baffle me. The upgrade instructions warn to follow the specific instructions for the upgrade path you choose, but do not include an upgrade path to 1.9.8, much less to 1.9.8.3! (http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page_ref_id=2444) I'm at 1.9.7. I tried applying the patch to 1.9.8.3 (tikiwiki_patch_1.9.7_to_1.9.8.3.txt.bz2), but it created a lot of errors and broke my installation. No worries, I had it backed up, but I still don't have the upgrade. I was probably doing something wrong, but there weren't any instructions for it, so I can't tell.

If anyone could tell me what I need to do to upgrade from 1.9.7 to 1.9.8.3, I would appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Derek

I've never used a patch myself, but my upgrades tend to follow this typical process:

  1. Backup the DB
  2. Backup any Tiki files I may have modified (PHP, TPL, etc)
  3. Download the Tiki ZIP.
  4. Unzip files on top of my existing Tiki files.
  5. Re-apply any customizations
  6. Run the tiki-install.php and select the appropriate upgrade script.

Okay, that works. It does seem like a patch would be a nice option.

Thanks for your help.
