How can unused images uploaded through fckeditor be deleted?

Since the "Remove unused pictures" pictures command in Admin:Wiki doesn't work on images uploaded through the WYSIWYG fckeditor, how can they be deleted?

Searching through the help and forums on fckeditor.net seems to indicate that it doesn't include this feature.

I haven't used the "remove unused pictures" command in Admin:Wiki in a while, because I have a vague memory of something bad happening when I did.

Now, having used it again and cleared by browser cache, I remember: it deletes the top bar banner image.

How can this be prevented?

I assume that command compares the images in the wiki_up directory with the images actually being used in wiki pages. If the banner image is in that directory but not in a wiki page, then it'd qualify to be removed. One way to prevent this from happening would be to also use the banner image in a wiki page (admin only or something); another way would be to store the top bar banner image somewhere else.

I'm just assuming how this works, though, so would do some tests and make sure I had a backup image ready to go if things didn't work as expected.

About the earlier question of how to delete unused images uploaded with the wysiwyg editor, I don't have any idea. That'd be a good thing to file a bug report about.

Thanks for the response, Gary. What's really weird is that I had actually set up a wiki page to be a home for the banner image after this happened the first time. After I read your post, I remembered this and found the page - the image was still there, with the same location and filename as the banner image. However, it wasn't until I edited and previewed a new page with the image that it was restored in the top bar.

So, to reiterate, here are the steps that may replicate the event on a v2.0 installation:

1. Create a wiki page with an image tag that points to the banner image location, and save.

2. Click "Remove unused pictures" in Wiki:Admin.

3. Clear browser cache.

4. Watch the top bar banner become a broken image icon.

5. Create a new wiki page, re-upload the same file, and preview it.

6. Banner image is restored.
