Upgrade from 1.7.1.1 to 1.7.4

hi tikiwiki users/gurus,

currently, i am running 1.7.1.1 (quite happily) on my website http://www.math800.com/, but because of several new bug fixes, i am exploring the option of upgrading to 1.7.4. i understand since we are in the same release train (1.7) there are no database upgrades. But my problem is how to upgrade to the latest 1.7 version, since i have already made changes in at least 80 different files to suit my needs.

and yes, i have backup database and copy of all the files that i have changed on another server, so i can afford to try *your wild/crazy suggestions* mrgreen on a separate server.

any pointers will be highly appreciated.

thanks

Hi!

After testing your backup :-) :

Are the modded files tpl? or source?

tpl's would be easy: simply install 1.7.4 and then copy your tpl's back

Having said that, there are some code changes that I made to my site www.damosoft.co.uk and when I upgraded to 1.7.4 there I just ran through the code putting my bits back.

However, you might want to wait a couple of weeks and check out the 1.8 release to save doing the job twice :-)!

Take care

Damian

damian,

thanks for your reply. i have modified a lot of php and tpl files.. also, added couple of small features to tikiwiki as per my need. unfortunately i havent kept a track of all the changes i have made, so i am very skeptical to upgrade.

instead is there a way to patch the changes (preferably, only the important bugs)

thanks,
-malhar

Hi,

I think your best solution here is to create some diff files from your current version and what 1.7.1 is.

Then look at recreating your changes from the diff files in the 1.7.4 code. If you have made a significant amount of changes to php files, are they bugfixs we could add to the code or customisations?

hi damian,

yes, there are a lot of mini customizations i made:

  • anyone can send message to admin
  • whenever you get a message, the # of unread messages and highlighting shows up on the user_pref menu
  • added correct answer option to the quiz, since i needed that for SAT Quizzes
  • made a lot of changes in seeing the quiz results
  • made some minor changes in ephemerides and newsletters etc..

you can look at those fixes at http://www.math800.com/

i plan to becoming a tikiwiki developer after i am done putting enough content and fixing bugs on my website.

cheers,
-malhar
