Has anyone added advertisement to their site?

I posted a question regarding problems I ran into while adding ads to my site through the banner plugin, no one has answered me.

So Im posting to see if anyone has done so, and how? I've seen people talk about adding ads in the template, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks in advance!

There is a Banner feature that can be used to display advertisements. However, in my experience this works, but it displays only one ad banner in a location; assigning more than one banner and expecting them to be rotated doesn't work.

Another method is to just make a custom module, and use whatever HTML you want (added as custom module data) to display the ad banner image or text. Or use the menupage module and a wiki page instead of custom module data.

In any case, the best way is to use a module to display the banner, in whatever position you want - page top, etc.

You don't need to edit the template.

Simply:

1. Define a banner zone.

2. Create a banner and assign it to the zone. If you have more than one banner assigned to a zone, Tiki will automatically/randomly display one of the available ads.

3. Display the banner zone in a module.

How do I get around this error message? I tried adding the ad code(Javascript) by using the 'HTML' button and inserting the code in there, but when I go to assigned the module to one of my zones I get an error, where do I allow html in modules. By the way I'm using tiki12.

Here's the error I'm getting:
"There is a problem with your custom module "Ads(Top Banner)": Syntax Error in template "71d2d6a5e946f7a563f7080688fa5a961f1135dd" on line 1 "{HTML()}" PHP function 'HTML' not allowed by security setting"

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand.... you should be putting the banner HTML in the banner (e.g., tiki-list_banners.php) — not the module.

In the module, you should simply add your banner zone {banner zone=ABC}

Or, are you not using the Tiki banner system at all?

I'll post some pics later.

Hey Rick,

When I paste the code in the html section of the banner, it adds an 'x' to 'script' after saving it. When I try using that banner, I can't since the x breaks the code. I've added a picture of what's happening, hopefully you or someone else can help.

Thanks

I'm using tiki12, but I had the same problem with my old version(9).

I tried deactivating Html purifier to see if there'd be a difference, same thing happened, is there a delay between deactivating it and for tiki to stop sanitizing codes? I'll try leaving it off for a while and see if it the code works, because I turned it back on after seeing nothing changed.

Also, whenever I paste the code in a module, I get this error message when I try assigning the module to a location(topbar etc.) " There is a problem with your custom module "Ads(Top Banner)": Syntax Error in template "71d2d6a5e946f7a563f7080688fa5a961f1135dd" on line 1 "{HTML()}" PHP function 'HTML' not allowed by security setting "

Sounds like you forgot to enable the Must be wiki parsed option. You must enable it if you want to use a wiki plugin (i.e., {HTML}) in a plugin. You might find my primer helpful.

HUGE thanks Rick, got it working. You were right I wasn't checking off the 'Must be wiki parsed' option.
