Tiki and Zarafa

I just found out about Zarafa from the Tiki Suite site, but I still have a question. I have Tiki set up on shared hosting, and I believe that Zarafa can be set up there too, but if so, can the two be integrated into one login? And if so can this be done on a shared hosting install of Tiki instead of Tiki Suite? The Tiki Suite site said something about integration using the ClearCenter marketplace, but since I am using shared hosting (and not ClearOS), I don't think this is possible. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Hi Murdoc!

I doubt you can install Zarafa on shared hosting. Either they offer or they don't, and most hosts tend to offer Horde IMP and/or RoundCube instead.

Even if Zarafa was installed, it would have to be connected to an OpenLDAP server (to which Tiki would also authenticate against) and I doubt any shared hosting provider will offer OpenLDAP either.

Theoretically, an app like Tiki could authenticate against the e-mail system. This used to be possible in Tiki: IMAP Authentication. However, this doesn't feel very future-proof.

A 1 gig linode is not much more expensive than shared hosting:

Thanks for the info, Marc. That's a little disappointing though. Shows how much I don't know about these things. And thanks for the suggestion of Linode, but I don't know if I am skilled enough to pull something like that off. I can install and operate Tikiwiki fine, but I've tried setting up a LAMP once on my home computer and couldn't get it to work. I'm guessing that running a Linode/Tiki Suite/Zarafa/OpenLDAP type stuff would probably be closer in difficulty to the latter than the former, right?

Hi Murdoc!

You can install on an old laptop (which may have a now unsupported OS), but then you need to fiddle with your router / firewall settings to be able to access from the outside.

The simplest to experiment is Linode.com You pay by the hour, so I suggest you try it for a few hours and report back here. Oh yeah, and USD$10 for Zarafa (it's AGPL but it's a contribution to help with the packaging). If at the end you decide you don't like it, it will have cost you a few hours and 11 dollars ;-)

Ready to splurge for a new domain name? :-)
To make it even simpler, get your domain name from ClearCenter.com and then, even this aspect is all nicely integrated in the GUI!

ClearOS is super easy to install and makes it super easy to install apps.

Installing a LAMP stack is all in the GUI:
http://www.clearcenter.com/support/documentation/user_guide/web_server
http://www.clearcenter.com/support/documentation/user_guide/mysql_server

Installing OpenLDAP and Zarafa is also a point & click thing.

Installing Tiki & Prosody still requires a few copy-pasting in the command line, but it will also become a point & click thing later on.

It's all documented here: http://suite.tiki.org/Tiki+Suite+Install

There is one issue with Apache Rewrite Rules on a default install. It doesn't stop you from using Tiki. It just prevents Clean URLs unless you go and activate manually via a config file edit. This should be resolved for ClearOS 6.6

Best regards,

M ;-)

Sorry, caught up in work. Yes, this information is all very useful, thank you. The person I'm working with doesn't think that we're ready to try this at this time, but it's great knowing this for when we do. I might even try playing with it a bit on my own in the meantime, depending on free time (I even have an old laptop that isn't seeing any other use right now). Much appreciated!
