Periodic errors importing email into my forum...

I'm importing email from a couple of mailing lists into my forum--has worked fine but every few days the forum crashes with these errors..

...
Warning: fgets(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/pjames/public_html/lib/webmail/pop3.php on line 215

Warning: feof(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/pjames/public_html/lib/webmail/pop3.php on line 217
...

That just repeats over and over again indefinitely. I can solve the problem by deleting all the emails in the mailbox, but its unfortunate that all these emails can't be included i nthe forum. I figured it might be an attachment problem so I configured the forum to allow attachments from all users, but it still does not work... Any advice would be appreciated. I'm using the Fantastico De Luxe 1.8

What version of Tiki are you using? I had similar problems with an earlier version, but with Tiki 1.8.1 this doesn't seem to happen.

(Although I do have other problems wink, but nothing show-stopping. Do your imported email posts retain their original subject lines, or do they all get the thread topic as a subject line? — This is one thing happening in my current forum-mailing list experiment.)

Ahh Ok I'll try 1.8.1 and see what happens...

My forum is not "operational" right nowotherwise I'd check for youbut the subject lines seem to show up as the thread title the way I would expect them to... and posts with the same title group together under the same thread in the forum as long as nobody changes the subject...

For example there was a thread on my site...

"Isn't art in decline when blah blah" and there were several posts in that thread but somebody adjusted the subject-line (via in the original mailing list) to "Art is in decline when blah blah" — not really a big deal to start a new thread in most cases like that...

What is a little strange is that all the posts are "anonymous" and if someone is to be contacted they really need to sign their contact info at the bottom of the message--but most likey if it's a mailing list they don't know they are being mirrored by me in the first place so the extra privacy they get as anonymous is maybe a "feature" than a "bug".

For me it seems to be a nice resource to have on my site--and its a good way to get a little extra traffic by mirroring... I know some forum softwares have an option where you can output non-scripted versions of the forum for the SE robots to index more easily... I'm wondering if this is a major disadvantage to Tiki users because it's primarily based on PHP and I don't know if Google indexes content on PHP scripted pages...

I was running tiki 1.7.1 and had very few problems inporting into my forums, but I did have troupble upgrading to 1.8.2, so I installed a new tiki 1.8.2 w/ a new database, and now I cannot get any of my forums to import email. I get the same error, and it brings my webserver to it's knees for about 30 mins.

I can only think its todo with the mailserver responses. Its a feature I dont use myself, but I have seen many commits going in to refine the responses it expects from various mailservers.

Maybe you could compare the code for the mailin between the two and see if you can spot a response difference

If you know your mailserver software then we might be able to help a little more,

Damian
