The reason it is not working is because the ^
character since it is rendered by the tiki first.
To prevent that use 'no-op' like:
~np~`x^2`~/np~
It works on mine with ASCIIMathML148.js installed.
It does not work here since ASCIIMathML.js is not installed here.
