Problem with "/tmp" before installation

Hello,

I just load up the contents of the TikiWiki zip file to my webspace. By visiting tiki-index.php the following error happend:

"The directory '/tmp' does not exist or PHP is not allowed to access it (check open_basedir entry in php.ini)."

In fact I have no access to this tmp directory and I can't become access to it (I'm not using a root server).
So I want to change the tmp directory variable to something else where for TikiWiki.
How can I do this? What do I have to change?

Thank you for answering,
George

Thank you very much for your answer.

I found this document already before you wrote it into your answer. But I didn't think that my problem will be solved by doing this. So I don't know what my problem has to do with that document.
Can you tell me this please?

Thanks,
George
