Creating File Galleries Error

posts: 17

When I try to create a file gallery, I get the error message:
Notice: invalid variable value: $_GET%22parentId%22 = -1

Is this caused because of a permissions issue?

Thanks

It doesn't look like that. Which version do you use?
Don't forget there's IRC #tikiwiki.

I'm using version 3.1.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is "IRC #tikiwiki"? Are you referring to an internet chat relay channel (Sorry, but I don't really make use of IRC, so I'm not overly familiar with possible references).

Thanks again.

I'm guessing the installation wasn't complete. Normally it is possible to create file galleries in TikiWiki 3.1 (there'd be a flood of reports if it wasn't, not to mention that the developers would be aware of problems). So I would be sure that the files are in place and the database is up to date. Is this a fresh installation of TikiWiki 3.1, or was the site updated from an earlier version?

Hi Gary;

The install was a completely new install, I didn't update from an earlier version. I installed the app through Fantastico on my host's site, so in a way, I'm not really in control over the finer details of the install. The installation package is suppose to be downloaded fresh from the tiki site for each install, or something, so I suppose all should be good.

This situation could possibly be related to another "oddity" that I ran across. I don't seem to have the mods manager installed anywhere. I assume that this may have been left off of the installation as well.

Thanks for all the help.

I was looking for "Admin Mods" in the default menu, where it was in Tiki 2, but chealer told me in IRC that the link was moved to tiki-admin.php?page=features, down in the "Crosslinks to other features and settings" - kind of an obscure location. You can also check to see if you have example.com/tiki-mods.php installed. Also I suggest activating other features and seeing if there are other possibilities of missing files.

WOW!

Okay, I found them. Thanks! Man, that wasn't hard to find, or notice at all. I hope I can remember this. :-)

For the file galleries, is there a file that I should be looking for, is there some way to test what permissions are being passed? What can I do?

Thanks for all the help you have given me so far, I have learned quite a bit and greatly appreciate the time you have taken with me.

If there is a permission problem, the error message indicates that specifically. The invalid variable error message seems to indicate that there's a problem with the files, not with configuration. I assume you get this message when you click the "Create new gallery" button on tiki-galleries, is that right? Then when you get the message, does it stop the gallery-making process?

Hi Gary;

Sorry for the silence. Well, it now works???! I removed the files gallery function from use, set all of the permissions for all of my groups to off, waited a couple of days and turned it all back on again and now I can create directories.

I still get the error message if I highlight the File Galleries level and try to create a directory off of that, but that is to be expected, since it is the root directory for that feature and I haven't allowed anyone but the admin to administer file galleries.

Anyway, it seems to work now, and, as it oft happens in computing, I don't know why. :-)

Thanks for all of your help on all things TikiWiki related.
